Central Facility of Instrumentation @ CAFRI

Advancing Agroforestry Research through Scientific Infrastructure

The Central Facility of ICAR–Central Agroforestry Research Institute (CAFRI), Jhansi provides state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation to support cutting-edge research in agroforestry, plant sciences, soil science, biotechnology, tree physiology, agronomy, environmental sciences, and allied disciplines. Equipped with modern analytical and molecular biology facilities, the Centre enables high-quality research, technology development, teaching, and capacity building for scientists, students, research scholars, and collaborative institutions.

Our facility houses a diverse range of advanced instruments, including molecular biology equipment such as PCR, Real-Time PCR, Gel Documentation Systems, NanoDrop spectrophotometers, and UV Transilluminators; analytical instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Automatic Nitrogen Analyser, UV–Visible Spectrophotometers, Flame Photometer, Bomb Calorimeter, and Oil Extraction Unit; along with specialized plant physiology and agroforestry research equipment including Portable Photosynthesis System (LI-6400XT), Leaf Area Meter, Water Potential System, Digital Plant Canopy Imager, Chlorophyll Meter, Quantum Sensors, Rotatory Microtome, Wood Working Machine, and Stereo Zoom Microscopes. These facilities support multidisciplinary research ranging from molecular characterization and plant improvement to soil, plant, wood, and ecosystem analysis.

Facility Access

The Central Facility is available to scientists, research scholars, students, and collaborating organizations for research, training, and analytical support. Access is provided through prior approval and under the supervision of laboratory in-charges to ensure efficient utilization of the facilities. Only trained and authorized users are permitted to operate sophisticated instruments in accordance with the Institute’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Quality, Safety and Good Laboratory Practices

CAFRI follows comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safe operation, regular maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance of all scientific equipment. The facility adheres to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), emphasizing data reliability, equipment traceability, user safety, preventive maintenance, and standardized documentation to maintain the highest standards of scientific excellence.

Collaborative Research

The Central Facility promotes collaborative research by providing analytical support to national research institutions, universities, and other organizations engaged in agroforestry and allied sciences. Researchers interested in using the facilities may contact the Institute to obtain the necessary permissions and schedule instrument access.
